Aspects of the New Museum's experience in scent

ATMOSPHERE

Two fragrances created in collaboration with the New Museum (New York, 2016). Not the art on the walls, but the building that holds it — SANAA's stacked aluminum boxes on the Bowery, the concrete and wood inside, the material conditions of a body arriving to look.

N°1 —

THE NEON THRESHOLD. The body on the street, looking up. Warm metal mesh heated by sun, neon at street level, the animalic hum of urban surfaces absorbing human presence. The bright edge where the city becomes the building.

N°2 —

THE WHITE VOID.
Empty exhibition spaces, waiting. Wood and concrete warmed by inner light, the mineral silence of raw surfaces, the otherworldly anticipation that fills a room before art enters it.
