LISTENINGS: The ephemeral experience of incense through music and object. A Noguchi Museum collaboration exploring contemporary incense rituals.

Co / Listenings explores the intersection of incense and music through collaboration. Inspired by Koh-do—the Japanese practice of "listening to incense" with the same meditative attention given to sound—each edition pairs a musician with custom incense and sculptural holder. The musician creates an original composition that unfolds alongside the incense's burn, both moving through the same durational arc.

Five editions were developed with the Noguchi Museum (2021), honoring Noguchi's understanding of objects as meditation tools. Each collaboration translates atmosphere into two forms: the musician interprets through sound, FOLIE through scent. The result is a timed ritual—incense and music as twin meditations, experienced simultaneously. Not background ambiance, but active attention. A contemporary practice of pause.
