Cornelia Thonhauser is an interdisciplinary artist born in Vienna whose work moves between photography, video, and multimedia projects. She holds an MA in Art History from UCL London and studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. Her photographic work focuses primarily on the American West desert, which she approaches as a source for geological and anthropological exploration. Over five years, Thonhauser has explored the Sonoran Desert through road trips and long walks, using photography to recover what she sees as a buried spirituality in the landscape. Her images and film work for fashion and multimedia performances have appeared worldwide in magazines, galleries, and sound art festivals. Her first book "Hidden Hills" documents this long-term project, celebrating the mythical ritualistic dimension and fading presence of ancient voices in the American West desert landscape.
