FIFTY PERCENT LOCATION

PHOTOGRAPHY

Eliot Lee Hazel — British-Dutch photographer and creative director born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, based in Los Angeles and London. His career began unexpectedly after training as a chef for over a decade, cooking at the Bocuse d'Or world championships and Michelin star restaurants, including for the Queen of Holland. Photographer Lionel Deluy recognized his photographic eye and gave him his first camera. Hazel never studied photography formally, developing instead a dark, haunting, moody aesthetic characterized by gritty cinematic photographs with a raw edge. His work explores themes of isolation, detachment, and otherworldliness through collaborations with Thom Yorke, Beck, Bat For Lashes, Devendra Banhart, Cat Power, and Yeasayer. He has photographed Shannyn Sossamon and Felicity Jones and served as a judge on BBC's Great British Photography Challenge. His philosophy: fifty percent location, forty percent subject, ten percent photographer.
