MEMORY AND THE EVERYDAY

P H O T O G R A P H Y

Yoshiyuki Okuyama is a Tokyo-based photographer and filmmaker born in 1991. He began producing photographic works in 2009 and made his debut with the 34th New Cosmos of Photography Excellence Award in 2011. His practice moves between portraiture, daily life, and the quiet architectures of memory — a body of work characterised by a dreamlike attention to light, the passage of time, and the contradictions held within the ordinary. His publications include Girl (2012), BACON ICE CREAM (2015), As the Call, So the Echo (2017), flowers (2021), and windows (2023). His Folie publication extends flowers, his 2021 monograph composed of photographs made in his late grandmother's home — a dialogue with her through the images of cut blooms.
