MARIPOL is a French artist, stylist, and photographer who shaped 1980s New York, collaborating with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Madonna, and Keith Haring. In December 2014, she kept a diary mixing archival Polaroids with new moments. A self-portrait from 1978: "Magic maker can erase sadness!" A drawing session with Basquiat, early morning, 1981, in the loft. Girls, girls, girls. Palms in motion. A certain laissez-aller. She writes of crossing the river through the bridge to leave Manhattan: "like cleaning your soul." Her reflection: "December is holiday season... Escaping the cold by going to warm weather, feeling the sun on your skin, the gifts you give and the ones you receive... Sadness and joy at the same time." This diary fragrance is a tribute to the 80s, exhibited now.
"I could almost smell the fragrances emanating from her photographs: a big sweet and sticky opulent tuberose, tribute to the 80’s… I added a latex modern twist to it to reinforce the exhibition feel of some of her pictures but also a green sharp facet thanks to galbanum to make it more energetic and reflect the urbanity of her environment."
