THIRTY-ONE DAYS OF BOLD GRAPHICS, PATTERN STUDIES, AND VISUAL JOKES WITH CRAIG AND KARL

ILLUSTRATION

Craig & Karl is the collaborative partnership of Craig Redman and Karl Maier, graphic designers based between New York and London. Their work—bold, playful, executed with knowing humor—explores simplicity, optimism, and lateral interpretations of the world. In August 2014, they kept a diary. No written entries, only images titled with winks: "So It Goes." "Look Both Ways." "Follow That Rabbit." "EAT ME :-)." Checkerboard figures, patterned faces, optical compositions, saturated color. A sponge shelf labeled Jeff Koons. Brothers from different mothers. Their reflection on the month: "Unusual and delightful." This diary fragrance matches their register—saturated and graphic.

"I got charmed by Craig & Karl simplicity and ‘with a wink and a smile humoristic work. I could not prevent myself from thinking about pop art and pop culture influences. I wanted to stay in the same register: I imagined a colorful mischievous strawberry – inspired by the unique and subtle scent of ‘Mara des bois’ a wild and savage version of the famous berry - that I twisted with a sparkly citrusy top made of bergamot like a burst of laughter and womanized with Jasmine flowers. To amplify these playful regressive facets I added an addictive black chic sleek base note made of Ebony Wood."
- PERFUMER, Jean Jacques

Series Statement

Over fixed periods, we invite artists to keep a diary with us — through audio, text, video, image.

They share textures, thoughts and experiences from that time.

At the diary’s close, our perfumer creates a fragrance — not as translation, but as portrait.

A period in the artist’s life,
filtered through another’s attention.

The scent becomes an anchor, but not for preservation.

For return. For continuation in another form.
