Philipp Weber is a German glass designer based in Berlin, known for inventing a custom glass-blowing pipe inspired by the trumpet. In October 2014, Weber kept a visual diary of his studio practice. The month documents not just making objects but reinventing the tools themselves: sketches and prototypes exploring another reality, experiments with absence and form, color studies and pigment samples, five iterations of his glass-blowing pipe laid side by side—each a modification, an evolution. Technical drawings. Production notes. A meditation on the void in our hands. This diary fragrance is hard and smooth like glass, porous as charcoal. Aldehyde and vetiver, smoky fire and metallic spices. An old factory filled with artisans.
"To create the essence of Philipp Weber’s work, I got inspired by his way of expressing scent as if it was a tactile element: ‘It would be hard and smooth like glass but porous as charcoal. I wanted this scent to evoke craftsmanship, an old factory filled with artisans chiseling objects… the smell of fire ovens, burning metal, melted glass, deep black charcoal, intense marine blue dusty pigments, so I combined smells of burning smoky fire and strong metallic spices."
